Meeting minutes 10/26/10
Oakes-meeting called to order 1:20 in 801
Intros-Oakes, Klug, Croom, Cabello, Erlich, Davis, Marushige, Harvey, Zeunges, Dudley, Abts, Christensen, A couple of suits.
Official Business-
Oakes-Motion-Croom and Christensen now new co-chairs of SGT
Motion passed all Yea no Nay
Ehrlich-Agenda shared out. Cabello-He will formalize committee meetings minutes etc in the form an email to all staff.
Committee share out skipped this week; except IB IB committee-shareout Marushige share out- IB pro dev, clarity on AOI’s for staff, SGT asked to share out AOI info to the rest of the school. Possible adhoc committees will develop other IB themes/work/tasks…
W Harvey, S North, S Crafton, & G Fouseki, and possible others will be adhoc groups
Abts-when is IB nite
Ken-not set yet D Davis-6th gr dig-explanation of the dig….petition to fund program…
Croom-fill in the dirt afterwards-offer expanding into a fieldtrip to the desert.
Marushige-Tied dig activity into IB unit-uses dig to draw students to the IB programme, shared how it can be funded by multiple budgets-Magnet, Sci, & IB $....
Cabello-Cost and sustainability-the future may not have the $ so can the 6th gr team take over the activity. Must be standards base and turned into an IB unit. Uniforms- Dudley-outerwear-wht blk plain maroon grey-weather has been a factor in the enforcement of jacket wear. Now the kids have pushed the limit. We will tighten up the enforcement when the weather improves. Cabello-are there enough loaners? Dudley-not enough. Ehrlich-can Admin shoot a rootube vid about what is expected. Dudley-sure Santos will do an announcement. Multiple comments on how this is a problem. SCS-Zeunges-Nothing to share
Christensen-can SCS deal with uniforms too?
Zeunges-Sure I will bring it up. Cabello-math upgrade and reading upgrade are available for the staff/students to use. SpEd and FBB and BB will be possible added to a MU/RU program class. Dudley-4th and 7th per will be used as a class to deliver the material. IB program considerations and stu needs will be researched and considered.
Cabello-stus that use this program have shown great gains in scores when using the program. Rosetta stone has quoted a price for student and staff -11k$ for school wide program for staff and stu. Ken-who will pay? Cabello-we have lots of sources. Oakes-lang policy-can we take the stus out of lang B?? shouldn’t it be another elective? Cabello-we can prob solve-maybe an 8th or Zero period. Open discussion of what works for kids. Donovan-if the Stus have good stu habits then keeping lang B would be a good thing, but if the Stus do not have a strong basis in lang B habits then having another class could be better. More open discussion on stus and what works….Dudley-the stus we will ID are FBB and low CST scores, # of years in US schools… we need to look at our lang B policy. Cabello-A-G reqs are being expanded to whole dist-Stus can take lang B here and get A-G credit-so lets think about keeping the kids in Lang B. Dudley-we are also sched it for primetime-Brown has ok’d it-in 6th gr all stus in class will take it-not sending 5/20th of class to computers-all stus would take it. Cabello-Gates McGinnity-all 8th graders will be reading at grade level. After testing the stus behind can get the program too. Ehrlich-can we do the Gates McGinnity program to the whole school. Abts-sounds good-lets discuss the implementation of Upgrade with 6th grade teachers. IB portfolios-Ken-we have 15 issues to deal with 13 are started/being dealt with-its on forms and files.

Lang Policy-people of interest have been invited to discuss issue
IB Assessment-staff is meeting to discuss it-doesn’t fit into Zangle how do we communicate meaningful assessments and still use zangle
Portfolios-6th in class, 7th panels of staff, 8th panels with outsiders. We need to weave the assessment into the portfolio process
Klug-does assessment cover kids that are above grade level? Ken-yes-it measures and communicates what they can do. Group-Open discussion on assessing students….Croom-tie assessment to portfolios-good idea. Group-more open discussion Donovon-when will we share out what is needed for the portfolios, so teachers can start saving-developing work for them. Christensen-we need some prescribed minimums for the portfolio. Abts-we are not archiving the stu work? Ken-yes Cabello-concrete will be fixed by 700 800 building Roundtable-
Oakes-GATE is fund raising
Erlich-7th gr team will IB by pen pal-ing
Dudley- City core parents can we get grass for the field we need matching funds 200k for turf-we may get to use the …the dist is going to build the field according to the dist
TKF-workshops we will get some mentors from college to work with our kids in need. Names to Dudley for who needs mentored
